Bulgari's Miami Design District Boutique Reimagined with Sunset-Inspired Hues
Bulgari has unveiled its newly renovated boutique in the vibrant Miami Design District, drawing inspiration from the breathtaking sunsets of both Rome and Miami. The two-story space, a collaboration between architect Massimo Adario and Bulgari's in-house team, features a captivating orange and blue gradient facade, evoking the vivid skies of its dual inspirations. Inside, a fusion of Roman heritage and Miami's tropical charm is showcased through thoughtful design elements, offering a luxurious experience for clients.
In a remarkable architectural feat, a previously confined Victorian terrace house in Sydney's Chippendale district has been dramatically transformed by local firm Alcami Architecture, addressing its inherent spatial limitations and scarcity of natural light through ingenious design choices.
The centerpiece of this renovation, dubbed "Terrace House Mirage," is a dynamically reconfigured central courtyard, ingeniously designed to fully open up, thus extending the home's functional area and maximizing exposure to natural light and refreshing air circulation. Reflecting influences from American artist James Turrell's Skyspaces, a uniquely chamfered ceiling around the courtyard frames the outdoor views, while mirrored panels along the upper walls evoke the illusion of an endless, hovering canopy, drawing inspiration from Adolf Loos's 1907 American Bar in Vienna. This approach not only pushes the boundaries of spatial perception but also harmonizes indoor and outdoor environments, embracing Australia's al-fresco lifestyle with solutions applicable to similar residential typologies. From the entrance, a pebble-lined pathway, visually amplified by a mirrored wall, traverses the home, leading to a living area with a seemingly floating cantilevered bench that overlooks another serene courtyard garden.
Beyond its innovative spatial design, the project intricately weaves the owner's Spanish and Arabic cultural heritage into its fabric, showcasing elements such as metal chains, roller blinds, and textured surfaces reminiscent of Mediterranean architecture. Horseshoe-shaped arches, an homage to Cordoba's Mosque-Cathedral, further enrich this narrative, ensuring the home resonates deeply with the owner's identity and personal history. The client's preferred color, orange, boldly punctuates the otherwise natural and neutral material palette, appearing in bespoke kitchen units, a striking translucent-orange onyx island, and an immersive all-orange bathroom featuring an acrylic tub and mosaic tiles. Upstairs, the private quarters boast a main bedroom with a balcony and natural light from a skylight, alongside a versatile study or guest room that offers privacy through a bi-fold partition, all unified by a continuous line of orange cabinetry. This project transcends typical terrace renovations by dissolving the conventional boundaries between the house and its garden, prioritizing light, air, and openness within a constrained urban setting.
This pioneering renovation exemplifies how thoughtful design can not only overcome structural constraints but also imbue a space with profound personal meaning and cultural resonance, demonstrating that even traditional architectural forms can be reimagined to foster a more open, connected, and vibrant living experience.
