Rockwell Group has unveiled its theater-inspired design for COTE Vegas, a new Korean steakhouse at The Venetian Resort. This 17,000-square-foot space, the fourth COTE establishment and first in the American West, aims to capture Las Vegas's vibrant theatricality. Featuring an amphitheater-like dining area centered around a bar, opulent details like gold leaf niches, and elevated private dining rooms, the restaurant promises a dramatic culinary experience.
Fairmont Tokyo: A Fusion of Urbanity and Nature by BAR Studio
BAR Studio's design for Fairmont Tokyo seamlessly blends the hotel's urban skyscraper setting with natural elements. Utilizing local materials, handcrafted details, and lush terraces, the interior design creates a serene atmosphere while offering breathtaking views of Tokyo Bay and Tokyo Tower. The hotel, located on the upper floors of the Blue Front Shibaura South tower, reflects traditional Japanese aesthetics and a strong connection to nature.
Galleri Sonja: A Scandinavian Sanctuary on Bornholm
Norm Architects crafted Galleri Sonja on the Danish island of Bornholm, drawing inspiration from the region's natural elements. This gallery, cafe, and shop hybrid, housed in a historic printing house, embodies a tranquil aesthetic through earthy tones and natural materials. It showcases local and Japanese artistry, fostering a community hub that reflects Bornholm's serene pace of life, with custom-made furniture emphasizing Scandinavian and Japanese design principles.
A historic Athenian townhouse, dating back to the 19th century, has undergone a remarkable transformation by the architecture firm Local Local. The project infused a minimalist interior with vibrant furniture and distinctive finishes, creating a unique character within this neoclassical dwelling in the Plaka district.
Architect Sofia Xanthakou spearheaded the renovation, which aimed to improve the home's functionality while honoring its deep historical roots and the diverse architectural influences of its surroundings. Due to stringent conservation regulations, structural modifications were limited, prompting the team to employ locally-inspired materials and patterns to enhance the living environment. The approach sought to re-establish the home's connection to its vibrant Athenian context through a brighter, more open internal aesthetic, introducing contemporary yet playful elements that welcome natural light, warmth, and modern family living.
The interior refresh began with removing outdated 1990s additions like glossy marble and heavy wood, establishing a predominantly white, monochromatic palette to amplify natural light in spaces constrained by thick stone walls and modest window openings. Significant historical elements, including wrought-iron railings and wooden panelled doors with marble jambs, were meticulously preserved and integrated into the updated design. The flooring throughout the residence introduces distinct character, with rich red terrazzo on the ground floor providing warmth and contrast, while lighter grey terrazzo brightens the kitchen and bathrooms. Upstairs, light-grey oak flooring introduces a contemporary feel to the bedrooms, and the dark wooden staircase was repainted to complement the new aesthetic. Bespoke elements, crafted by local artisans, including bookshelves, radiator covers, and joinery, blend classical forms with modern needs, further enhancing the living experience. Additionally, a serene stone-paved courtyard was restored, and rooftop terraces offer panoramic views of the Acropolis.
The project beautifully demonstrates how historical structures can be adapted for contemporary living without sacrificing their intrinsic value. By thoughtfully integrating modern design with preserved heritage, the renovation not only respects the past but also actively contributes to a more vibrant and functional future, showcasing a profound appreciation for cultural and architectural legacy.
