Launched at the MoMA Design Store in New York City, the collection showcases Morrison's "super normal" design philosophy with utilitarian, mobile pieces made from light beech wood, stainless steel, and nautical-striped fabrics. Breaking away from conventional lighting designs, the Gambosa table lamp, conceived by designer Mathias Hahn for the Spanish brand Marset, transforms the fundamental elements of a lamp – its shade, stem, and base – into an artistic sculptural statement.
This innovative luminaire, constructed from a combination of robust steel and translucent opal polycarbonate, showcases a broad, domed shade that gracefully tops a distinct capsule-shaped stem. The stem itself appears to be delicately balanced on a rounded tip, which seamlessly merges into a slender, disc-like base. The entire arrangement is characterized by its bold, geometric composition, with individual components seemingly floating in harmonious equilibrium, as no direct connections are immediately visible. Adding to its refined aesthetic, the power cord is elegantly integrated, sweeping down the side of the lamp with a fluid motion. The Gambosa lamp is offered in a curated selection of mixed and matched hues, allowing for personalized style with options such as an orange or moss grey stem paired with a black, pink, or opal shade. The opal polycarbonate material ensures that the light emanates with a gentle, diffused glow, enhancing the ambiance of any space.
The Gambosa lamp exemplifies a modern interpretation of a familiar object, offering a surprising contemporary silhouette and color palette while retaining its fundamental functionality. This design not only illuminates a room but also serves as a captivating piece of art, stimulating both visual and emotional responses. It inspires us to view everyday items with fresh eyes, appreciating the beauty and innovation that can be found in thoughtful design, and reminding us that creativity can elevate the mundane into the magnificent.
