Svenskt Tenn, a renowned Swedish heritage brand, is currently hosting an exhibition titled "Standing Tall" at its Stockholm flagship store. The showcase features six exquisite cabinets designed by the legendary Austrian-born architect and designer Josef Frank, spanning his work from the 1930s to the 1950s. A highlight of the exhibition is the debut of a new edition of his Cabinet 522, now featuring a luxurious horsehair fabric.

Jan Kath, a German design house, has unveiled its latest collection, 'Erased Heritage,' which reimagines conventional rug patterns. This series features classic woolen rugs adorned with contemporary silk elements, designed to intrigue and inspire contemplation. The collection draws inspiration from historical textile art from East and Southeast Asia, integrating diverse regional patterns with modern artistic touches such as linear designs and ethereal, cloud-like textures.

A standout piece from the collection, the Bidjar Highgate Enjoy rug, exemplifies this fusion. It showcases a rich Persian aesthetic in deep red tones, artfully disrupted by abstract, scratch-like silk lines concentrated in its corners. The strategic use of silk allows these modern additions to subtly shimmer and stand apart from the robust Highland wool, which forms the body of the rug through meticulous hand-combing, hand-spinning, and hand-knotting techniques. Each rug can be customized in terms of dimensions and design to meet specific aesthetic requirements.

Designer Jan Kath emphasizes that his creative philosophy is not about mere reproduction but about evolving traditional forms. He views classic patterns as a foundation, a 'mother' from which new, contemporary designs emerge. This approach results in creations that are not only visually striking but also challenge perceptions and encourage deeper engagement with the art of rug making.

This innovative collection bridges the past and the present, transforming traditional craftsmanship into contemporary art. It showcases how heritage can be honored and revitalized through bold artistic interpretation, offering pieces that are both functional and thought-provoking, enriching spaces with stories of cultural evolution and artistic courage.
