Amangiri's Six-Bedroom Villa: A Desert Oasis Blending with Nature

Amangiri's Six-Bedroom Villa: A Desert Oasis Blending with Nature

Masastudio has created a six-bedroom villa at the Amangiri resort in Utah, USA, drawing inspiration from the dramatic rock formations of the region. This 12,001-square-foot residence, located away from the main resort, offers privacy and stunning desert views. Its design emphasizes integration with the landscape through locally sourced materials and architectural features that mimic natural elements, providing a unique blend of luxury and natural harmony.

London's Pirajean Lees studio embarked on an ambitious project to revitalize Hong Kong's renowned Dragon-i nightclub, taking cues from the distinctive visual style of director Wong Kar Wai's movies. Founded in 2002 by Gilbert Yeung, Dragon-i has long been a staple of Hong Kong's vibrant nightlife scene. The design team, led by James Lees and Clémence Pirajean, worked closely with Yeung to infuse the space with a fresh energy, evoking the '90s and early 2000s' romantic essence of Hong Kong through its dramatic and atmospheric interiors. The renovation introduced custom-designed furnishings, meticulously crafted by Chinese artisans, transforming the venue's overall aesthetic.

A significant aspect of the transformation involved reconfiguring the club's layout and integrating a new members' club. The main nightclub area now features a central marble-topped bar adorned with dazzling glass-brick cabinets, while the DJ booth is framed by swirling timber panels, complementing the handcrafted sound system. Silver leather banquettes and strategic architectural framing create a cinematic ambiance, designed to evoke a series of unforgettable evenings. The bathrooms contribute to this immersive experience with disorienting floor-to-ceiling mirrors and stainless steel cubicles illuminated by pink lights, adding an element of playful luxury. The selection of materials, including unique Chinese marbles with vibrant colors, was driven by their sensory appeal, aligning with the club's focus on music and a rich, tactile environment.

The adjacent members' club, occupying the former restaurant space, strikes a balance between the nightclub's theatricality and intimate, residential comfort. It boasts a listening bar where guests can explore Gilbert Yeung's extensive record collection, displayed in oversized shelving behind a perforated DJ booth. A central 'library' area with plush velvet sofas and green-hued banquettes creates a cozy atmosphere, enhanced by textile-clad walls that optimize acoustics. Completing the experience are a dedicated games room and outdoor terraces, offering diverse spaces for socializing and relaxation. This project embodies Pirajean Lees' signature detailed and narrative-driven design approach, celebrating freedom and fun, without taking itself too seriously, mirroring the dynamic and quirky spirit of Hong Kong itself.

This innovative design approach transforms a typical nightlife destination into an immersive artistic experience, reminding us that even recreational spaces can be canvases for creativity and cultural reflection. By drawing inspiration from cinematic artistry and incorporating bespoke craftsmanship, Pirajean Lees has not only rejuvenated an iconic venue but also crafted an environment that celebrates the city's unique identity, proving that thoughtful design can elevate everyday experiences into something truly memorable and inspiring.
