The Silva collection, a collaborative effort between the American firm Union Design and the brand KFI Studios, introduces a distinctive interpretation of classic bentwood furniture. This series showcases an array of chairs and tables, aiming to merge enduring artistry with a contemporary and welcoming design philosophy.
Central to the Silva collection's appeal is its celebration of natural beech wood. Designers incorporated graceful rounded legs, carefully sculpted bevelled edges, and a understated satin finish to accentuate the material's innate beauty. The collection's chairs, which include guest, lounge, and stool variants, are particularly notable for their steam-bent rear legs, forming an elegant curve from the floor to the headrest. This design element is most prominent in the slightly reclined lounge chair, pushing the boundaries of bentwood technology to create a sense of simplicity and comfort.
Jeff Theesfeld, founder of Union Design, articulated that the Silva collection's purpose is to highlight wood's natural elegance through forms that feel both accessible and organic. Each curve, edge, and contour was meticulously refined to honor the material, enhance comfort, and convey a feeling of effortless grace. Intended for use in professional and hospitality settings, the seating options offer optional upholstery and are available in seven different wood stain finishes.
