Victorinox, the renowned manufacturer of the iconic Swiss Army Knife, has unveiled an exciting new initiative dubbed "Re-Imagine." This global competition calls upon creative minds worldwide to conceptualize and develop fresh interpretations of their classic multi-tool. The project is being promoted in collaboration with Dezeen and features designer Laurids Gallée, who recently shared his insights on reimagination within his own design practice.

Gallée, in an exclusive video filmed at his Rotterdam studio, elaborated on his design philosophy. He explained that much of his artistic output stems from an iterative and experimental process. His method involves continuously testing different approaches, such as combining, layering, dissecting, removing, blending, and accumulating elements. These varied techniques enable him to construct entirely new forms and functions from pre-existing components, echoing the spirit of the "Re-Imagine" competition.

The competition, which officially commenced today, provides a unique platform for designers to contribute to the legacy of the Swiss Army Knife. Participants are encouraged to explore innovative concepts that push the boundaries of design while maintaining the inherent utility and spirit of the original tool. Submissions will be accepted until February 16, 2026, marking a significant period for prospective entrants to develop their proposals.

Following the submission phase, an internal jury will meticulously review all entries to curate a shortlist of outstanding concepts. These selected creators will then be invited to an exclusive pitch day, where they will present their detailed ideas. From these presentations, a select group of exceptional concepts will advance to a rigorous development and prototyping stage, bringing their visions closer to reality.

Once the prototypes are refined, members of the Victorinox Community platform will have the opportunity to cast their votes. The evaluation criteria for these concepts are comprehensive, encompassing vision, craftsmanship, functionality, collectibility, and the narrative behind each design. This community involvement underscores Victorinox's commitment to engaging its dedicated user base in the evolution of its products.

The ultimate winning design from the "Re-Imagine" competition is slated for production as a limited-edition Victorinox release in the coming years. This not only offers a prestigious recognition for the victorious designer but also promises a unique and innovative addition to the esteemed Victorinox product line, continuing the tradition of quality and ingenuity that the brand is known for.

The "Re-Imagine" competition stands as a testament to Victorinox's forward-thinking approach, embracing innovation while honoring its rich heritage. By inviting designers to re-envision the Swiss Army Knife, the company aims to inspire a new wave of creativity, ensuring that this timeless tool remains relevant and exciting for future generations. This initiative celebrates the fusion of tradition and modernity, fostering a dynamic dialogue around design and functionality.
